- Vinnie Mase says “Write a Letter”
- July 4, 2010
- Two hundred and thirty four years ago, the final draft of The Declaration of Independence was handwritten (“engrossed”) by Timothy Matlack, a “professional penman” . The saga of America’s history before and after the revolution is recorded in the personal letters of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John and Abigail Adams, just to mention the period’s best known correspondents.
- Celebrate the Fourth of July in the usual ways with fireworks and picnics with family and friends. And, how about celebrating in a historical way by writing a letter. It is the handwritten letter that the military serviceman or woman carries in the pocket. It is the collection of handwritten love letters that are gathered in a ribbon to be cherished over a lifetime. It is the handwritten letter that documents one’s personal history and connects the generations of a family, of a country. Let’s face it, we save handwritten letters. Celebrate this holiday- do something that endures, “Write a Letter”!
