Letters Lift Spirits
A subscriber asks:
Carol!
“How/where can I get address of people to write snail mail/paper letter/postal letters to?”
-Dianne

Good question, Dianne…
If you are reading this, chances are you already write an occasional letter, OR you want to. Perhaps you remember to send that birthday card to a friend or relative and get it there on time!  But finding someone to strike up that special friendship through letters in the mail is indeed unique.  Someone who will bring us a feeling of anticipation as we approach our mailboxes.  Someone who will be as enthusiastic about writing letters as we are, AND will find the time to keep the correspondence alive….a PEN PAL.

To find a pen friend, I highly recommend: THE LETTER EXCHANGE. With 25 years of experience, “The  Letter Exchange exists to support and encourage the age-old art of letter writing in our modern times.  We connect letter writers across the country and around the world through anonymous listings in the magazine and confidential mail forwarding.”-(quoted from The Letter Exchange Magazine)

To join, there is a small fee which buys a membership number, 3 issues of the magazine per year, 20 words for a listing, and unlimited free forwarding.  Once you get your first issue, you can respond to any number of listings in a variety of categories. Send your letters to the LEX address and they are then forwarded on.  Instructions are clearly given in the magazine.  You may wish to post your own 20 word listing for the next issue.  Privacy and anonymity are key.  You are not obligated to any correspondence that doesn’t work out .  Just keep trying.  It’s all about meeting people on the page, “not in person”. ( It is not a dating service.)

With a global range, there is ample opportunity to find a friend to click with.  Give your mailbox new purpose and a chance to lift your spirits!  www.letter-exchange.com

I first learned about The Letter Exchange through Adam Schwartz’ article “Keeping Alive the Lost Art of Letter-Writing.” The broadcast and accompanying article are excellent. Indiana Public Radio Give a listen, all is not lost!
