Once again Amnesty International is launching the Write for Rights 2014 campaign- a 10 day letter writing marathon beginning today-December 1st.
“Write for Rights epitomizes what Amnesty International is all about – individuals helping other individuals, wherever they might be. It is a unique and extraordinary event that brings together millions of people in a bid to secure justice for men, women and children around the world”. Salil Shetty, Amnesty International’s Secretary General.
Last year’s campaign generated over 2.3 million actions involving 143 countries. It was the biggest Write for Rights ever! This incredible support poured huge international attention on the human rights violations of 12 cases including individuals and communities. And as a result, three Prisoners of Conscience were released: Cambodian housing rights activist Yorm Bopha, Russian peaceful protester Vladimir Alimenkov, and Tunisian blogger Jabeur Mejri.
