Buy some stamps today

April 14, 2020 By Carol

Once again, I must ask you to help “Save the Post Office!”

The business closures due to the coronavirus pandemic have reduced mail volume by 50%. The USPS has asked Congress for financial assistance and the Trump administration has refused. Without emergency funding the post office is on the brink of insolvency, and may have to close by this coming June.

Americans across the country are stepping up to protect the “most trusted agency in the government,” and are buying stamps to support the postal service. Now, I’m asking you to do the same.

Think of your letter carrier, an essential worker, who is risking his/her health to bring you your mail, packages, food, and medicines during this Covid-19 crisis. Their lives and now their jobs are at risk, along with more than 600,000 postal workers.

I invite you to purchase some stamps and write some letters. Send a note, write a card to a friend, or a relative. You  don’t have to leave your home. You can buy stamps on line at https://store.usps.com/store/results/stamps

Also, you can call/email your district’s congressman or woman,  and both of your senators to tell them they MUST include the USPS in the next coronavirus financial relief package. Just think of how important your mail is to you at this time of “sheltering in place.’ And voting by mail, which at present, is the safest way, would not be possible without the postal service.

Please, let’s do our part.

As a retired postal worker, I thank you.
