Dear Reader, Pope Francis was a genuine human being. He represented what I would define as a “Real Christian.” He loved thy neighbor as thyself. He always advocated for the least among us, the poor and the marginalized. Francis walked the talk. His life gives us an example of what our “higher angels” can actually accomplish.
Like his namesake, Francis of Assisi, Pope Francis saw the divine in the Earth and all Her creatures. He didn’t hold back in calling out injustices- be it war, Gaza, the mistreatment of migrants, income inequalities, or the impending climate crisis. He put two-and-two together to broadcast that greed was destroying the Earth and exacerbating the migration of thousand of desperate people. Francis brought the Church into the 21st Century. He faced long buried scandals head on and offered apologies for centuries’ old misconduct. He was a spiritual leader for all mankind.
In gratitude, may we each find ways to carry on his vision.
On this Earth Day, in remembrance of Francis, do something kind for the Earth. Notice the Spring flowers, the birds preparing their nests, go for a walk. Say hello to a passerby. Find a way to appreciate the beauty in Nature and in humanity
Thanks. –Carol
