There’s something about a person’s signature that indicates much about them. I know very little about the science of handwriting analysis. What I do look at is the way the letters are formed. Are they clear and precise? Bold? Or illegible? Notice the flourishes in the script above. The lines are practically weaving themselves together. As I was searching for Columbus’s signature, the above images kept showing up. If you can not decipher the name: “Christopher Columbus” in the writing, neither can I. Firstly, the man’s name was actually Cristofo Colon. Secondly, Columbus substituted this pyramid of letters for his signature. It is a combination of Byzantine-Greek and Latin. He signed his name Xpo-Ferens, the first part being Greek and the second Latin. No one has been able to puzzle out his signature. One reference suggested that this grouping of letters is both a prayer and a talisman…Your guess is as good as anyone’s! Overall, I’d say he had a very large personality with a heavy dose of self importance.
