The Year of the Snake 2025

January 29, 2025 By Carol

Michelangelo’s Garden of Eden. Sistine Chapel, Vatican City, Rome

Happy Chinese New Year, dear Reader. The Snake is this year’s featured animal. Shy, cautious, mysterious and fluid. Snake has the ability to transform as new growth forces the shedding of the old skin.  Intelligence and adaptability are other noteworthy qualities. Snake can be cool and aloof. In Nature, snakes are introverted. They generally won’t bother you unless they are disturbed. Then, the venomous, deadly aspect comes to the surface.

Based upon some Chinese predictions, 2025 brings us the Snake’s wise and intuitive energy. The Snake, symbolizing wisdom and transformation, offers opportunities for personal growth and change. A lot of changes are coming. Some may be chaotic, forcing decisions  regarding love, work, health and family.

Amid these uncertainties, it’s normal for people to feel anxious. Mr. Chow reminds us to “embrace the changes” and focus on caring for our health and that of our families.

“We often say that ‘one happy event prevents the occurrence of three disasters.’ So plan your happy occasions,” says Chow.

“Always remember, like the snake, changes are good for your growth.”- Thierry Chow, a Hong Kong-based feng shui consultant

Speaking of snakes….Michelangelo’s Garden of Eden snake is my favorite. She is part snake, part woman. She is handing Eve an apple, while Adam’s arms eagerly reach for his fruit. Joseph Campbell, in The Masks of God, explains- in the ancient Palestinian version of the story, Adam and Eve needed an apple to get INTO PARADISE. Maybe Michelangelo was onto that story. Wouldn’t that explain the urgency expressed in Adam’s arms.? If only the snake could talk….

May we emulate the flexibility of the snake as we release old skins, and find the courage to transform with the changes ahead. Spend time in Nature. Look for you way into Paradise, and plan many Happy Occasions in 2025.
