A Grateful Action

March 18, 2025 By Carol

Dear Reader, How are you holding up amidst all this chaos in our daily lives?

I’m someone who likes to take action. Having purpose and connecting with community makes me feel less alone and afraid. I’ll admit, I am afraid. I am overwhelmed by the heartlessness, cruelty, and insanity of America’s new government.

We used to say in the post office, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Before Inauguration Day 2025, the country, for the most part, ran like a well-oiled machine. Now, two months later, everything’s broken, shattered, or disappeared. Unqualified sadistic, lawless people are in charge wreaking havoc in all directions. The government wasn’t broken, but now, I wonder if we can ever fix the damage that is being done.

I don’t look at the corporate news.  Heather Cox Richardson, Robert Reich, Timothy Snyder give me my daily updates. I look at a few specific social media posts for positive news and actions to take. We are stronger together. My intention is share whatever optimism I can find to support others to stay connected.

So, here is an action I think you would enjoy- writing thank you notes to our champions. There are many brave people who are standing up to the bullies and inspiring courage in the rest of us. Some of these folks are politicians, both Democrats and even a few Republicans, having to endure the daily exhausting assaults in Congress. Some are local legislators attempting to deal with the shrinking federal funds, and others are just regular people who are standing strong to support our basic values and common decency. You know who these people are. Their addresses are easy to find. And I know that a handwritten note will definitely brighten their day. You will feel good writing them.

Stay strong, Carol
