Veterans’ Day 2019
In honor of Veterans’ Day, I’d like to share this old postcard with you. A friend sent this French postcard which depicts the WWI Allied Forces. The young maid appears to be telling a surviving soldier of the path towards victory that ended the war in 1918.
The writing on the back of the card dated: “Friday Nov. 19, 1943” is a request for writing paper. At this time, America was involved in WWII. Paper was scarce and extremely expensive. “Rock,” the author, laments about the cost of 100 sheets. “I am afraid it is all sky-high and the sky is more than my ceiling.” He continues,”Maybe I’ll quit writing! I’D RATHER STOP EATING!” Now there’s a serious letter writer.
P.S. Special heartfelt thanks to Veterans everywhere who risked all in service to the country.
