At last, here’s some “eye candy”- the 2019 Graceful Envelope Contest Winners with their Put Your Stamp On It masterpieces.

There is no question, The Graceful Envelope Contest elevates “mail art” to museum quality levels. Every year, since 1994, the Washington Calligraphers’ Guild and the National Association of Letter Carriers team up to sponsor the mail art contest called “The Graceful Envelope.” There’s a different theme each year, and calligraphy artists from across the country and around the world compete. The prize is the recognition, and an opportunity to have their award winning envelope displayed at the NALC headquarters in Washington, D.C.

2019 marks the 25th anniversary of this ingenious contest. Scripsit’s Fall 2019 publication (Vol. 41, No. 21) salutes the Graceful Envelope Contest’s 25 years with full-color reproductions of 270 winning envelopes from all 25 years, with a spotlight on winners from 2015 through 2019.
To view all of this year’s winners, please go to the Washington Calligrapher’s Guild, and click on Graceful Envelope Contest 2019 winners. Information on where you may purchase this anniversary issue of Scripsit is also available. (see link below).
And consider next year’s theme: “Seeing Double.” The 2020 theme is inspired by the year itself. Only once a century does the year double up! On an envelope, capture something that’s double—whatever you see in your personal Double Vision. POSTMARK DEADLINE: Monday, March 23, 2020

Here’s a curious fact- all of these entries must be put into the mail like any other envelope. Just think about all the hours of painstaking work that goes into each envelope and then…into the mailbox it goes. You’ll notice some of these envelopes have ink smudges from the stamp cancellation. Still the art shines through. Amazing.
